Richard Brandt

Richard has more than 25 years of experience in business process analysis, solution architecture, and software design, which he applies to the financial services and life sciences industries. He works directly with leading financial companies, life sciences companies, and standards organizations to create publishing solutions that meet the evolving requirements for investment research reporting, fund fact sheet publishing, and pharmaceutical drug submissions. Richard currently serves as Director of Financial Services Solutions at Quark and on a number of industry working groups. He also serves as the chairperson for the RIXML.org Emerging Technology Subcommittee.

John Grillos

John Grillos

John Grillos brings more than 20 years of experience as an executive in the software industry to the development of industry solutions and strategic partnerships that interlock dynamic publishing and enterprise content management. He has worked with a broad range of corporate business problems including extracting content value, business process divides, and legal compliance. From his executive roles with IBM, EMC-Documentum and others, John has gained expertise in developing content architectures and publishing cycles as well as industry-based familiarity of competitive landscapes in content authoring and content distribution. John applies this knowledge to drive strategic product and partner plans in his role as Vice President of Strategic Partner Sales with Quark. He speaks frequently on the intersection between dynamic publishing and enterprise content management using his proficiency in the relevant content technologies of today.

Matthias Guenther

Matthias Guenther

Both an engineer and a layout artist, Matthias bridges the gap between technology and people. Before joining Quark, Matthias pioneered print, Web, and multimedia products for multiple German publishing companies. For the past 14 years, he has played a central role in shaping Quark’s desktop and enterprise software. During the past eight years Matthias has focused on interactive and digital publishing solutions. He is an active participant in design and publishing communities and represents Quark in the Ghent PDF Workgroup. Matthias is a frequent speaker at seminars and conferences worldwide, helping both individual designers and large organizations to uncover the possibilities and implications of digital publishing, including the business considerations, design and technology implications, and business capabilities offered by digital design and publishing tools.

Mark Lewis

Mark Lewis

Mark Lewis, a software engineer turned technical writer, uses his own experiences in technical communication, XML, and DITA to help other writers bridge the gap from unstructured to structured authoring. Using a teach-by-example approach, he demonstrates the benefits of moving to XML and using DITA to both writers and managers. He has shared his experience through multiple roles with the Society for Technical Communication (STC), where he has been recognized with awards in Distinguished Chapter Service and the Florida Technical Communications Competition. Mark is a contributing author of DITA 101 Second Edition and has authored workshop and white papers on DITA metrics that demonstrate the savings and high content reuse percentages possible with DITA’s structured, topic-based architecture. His DITA metrics model was a JoAnn Hackos — Rare Bird Award 2009 Competitor.

Dan Logan

Dan Logan

A designer by training and a technologist by experience, Dan combines talents from page layout and design to photography, animation, and interactive authoring. A long-time QuarkXPress Product Manager, Dan has drawn on design experience as a Studio Manager with projects for Wired magazine, Chronicle Books, Toyota, Sony, Samsung, and others to shape multiple releases of QuarkXPress. He’s been described as having “an intense commitment to well-made software that users can actually feel” and as an “incredibly clear communicator” whose storytelling style opens the world of design to novices and professionals alike. In 2000, Dan was recognized in HOW Magazine’s 57 Hottest Interactive Designs Annual. He is currently designing the graphic and layout features for future versions of QuarkXPress.

Dave White

Dave White

Dave White, an engineer by training with two decades in the publishing software industry, is on the forefront of the technologies that are shaping the publishing software industry. He has helped to define XML standards, shaped product and business development strategies, and shared his extensive knowledge of science and technology with diverse groups at a variety of publishing conferences. His experience spans both the technical and business sides of the industry and contributes to his current role as Vice President of Alliances and Emerging Technology at Quark.
